It’s Good, Except It Sucks is a movie by movie – and television series by television series – hurtle through the Marvel Cinematic Universe, hosted by Tim Worthington with a series of superpowered guests.
Taking a look at all of the movies and television series released as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe – and some from outside of it too – from the family-friendly web-slinging of Spider-Man: Homecoming and the laugh-a-minute space skirmishes of Guardians Of The Galaxy to the macabre visions of Helstrom and the dark heart of costumed vigilante justice in The Punisher, it’s a lightweight and fun yet critical and analytical look at a franchise that seems to attract an undue amount of scorn despite somehow managing both to be diverse and inventive and to be all things to all viewers. Well, apart from Inhumans. And lordy, did we have plenty to say about that one…
Most of the editions are shorter than A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Thor’s Hammer, and the guests range from hardcore comic obsessives to others who weren’t even completely sure of who Spider-Man actually is, although somehow it’s doubtful that Ken Loach, Martin Scorsese or Jennifer Aniston will ever agree to appear (although I’d make them do Red Sonja if they did). You can find out how closely Captain America: The First Avenger mirrors British wartime movies, whether Avengers: Endgame is an appropriate date movie, what Jessica Jones has to tell us about toxic masculinity, why Captain Marvel is a victory for anyone bar the sort of people who should not be allowed near cinemas anyway for reasons of public order and odour, what solace Ant-Man And The Wasp can bring to someone who’s just been ghosted on Bumble, and whether Iron Fist is actually any g… well, we’re still trying to figure that one out. There’s facts, jokes, opinions, celebrations, dismissals, and – for no readily apparent reason – repeated mentions of Richard Herring. Join the small but active fanbase now!
Incidentally, if you enjoy It’s Good, Except It Sucks, you can help to support the show by buying us a coffee here. Preferably one so strong that you’d need the Infinity Gauntlet to handle it.
