Doctor Who Magazine #547

Doctor Who Magazine Issue 547.

Issue 546 of Doctor Who Magazine is out this week, and there’s a bit of a treat for fans of the Fourth Doctor my audiobook reviews.Well, in a roundabout wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey kind of a way.

First up there’s The War Master: Anti-Genesis, in which two different incarnations of The Master – played by Derek Jacobi and Mark Gatiss – are sent by the Time Lords to interfere with the events of celebrated 1975 story Genesis Of The Daleks as part of some decidedly un-sporting Time War subterfuge. There’s plenty in this to thrill fans of Nyder, Davros and the Daleks emerging to take their rightful place as the supreme power of the Universe, with added inter-Master bickering, and while the old adage says that it’s possible to have too much of a good thing, that’s definitely not the case when it comes to Genesis Of The Daleks.

Meanwhile, The Robots finds Big Finish’s Eighth Doctor assistant Liv Chenka returning to her home planet Kaldor to share a flat with her not exactly close sister and find out what the robots from 1977’s The Robots Of Death get up to when they’re not conducting covert assassinations, provoking Robophobia, and pleading not to have hands thrown at them. Turns out it’s mostly tedious admin. But you knew there was a twist coming…

Aside from that, there’s loads about the new series, a tremendous feature on Fourth Doctor-era merchandise, and – if you buy it in WH Smith – a free CD with THAT music from The Tomb Of The Cybermen. You can get Doctor Who Magazine in all good newsagents and from the magazine’s official website here.

The War Master: Anti-Genesis (Big Finish, 2019).

The Robots (Big Finish, 2019).

You can read much more of my thoughts on Doctor Who in my book Can’t Help Thinking About Me, a collection of columns and features with a personal twist. Can’t Help Thinking About Me is available in paperback here or from the Kindle Store here.

You can get The War Master: Anti-Genesis directly from Big Finish here and The Robots here.
