I’m very pleased to announce that I’ve written the sleevenotes (alongside some chap called John Lloyd) for a long overdue box set reissue of all four Not The Nine O’Clock News albums – Not The Nine O’Clock News, Hedgehog Sandwich, The Melody Kinda Lingers and Not In Front Of The Audience – which is now available for pre-order. The albums have been newly remastered and are all complete and uncut, including the first which has been out of print pretty much since its initial release. The albums were all massive hits and the first two made the top five, so there will doubtless be a lot of people out there looking forward to replacing their well-worn originals.
The albums – featuring Constable Savage, England My Leotard, The Two Ninnies, That’s Lies!, Baronet Oswald Ernold Moseley, Re-Altered Images, Grow Up You Bastards and plenty of other sketches that will hopefully get up the noses of Willie Whitelaw’s spiritual heirs all over again – are available in replicas of the original sleeves as both a vinyl box set and a CD box set, and there’s also a limited edition vinyl set which comes with a print signed by Rowan Atkinson. All that’s missing for your listening pleasure is a bag on your head…
You can order the Not All The Albums Again vinyl box here and the CD box here, and the Limited Edition version (which will probably be sold out by the time I publish this) here.
You can read more about the Not The Nine O’Clock News singles – some of which were different to the album versions – in my book Top Of The Box – The Story Behind Every Single Released By BBC Records And Tapes, which is available in paperback here or from the Kindle Store here.
