Looks Unfamiliar #1: Phil Catterall – Here Is Pyramint, Buy Pyramint

Star Wars - Droids, as discussed by Tim Worthington and Phil Catterall in Looks Unfamiliar.

Looks Unfamiliar 1 – Phil Catterall

Looks Unfamiliar is a podcast in which writer and occasional broadcaster Tim Worthington talks to a guest about some of the things that they remember that nobody else ever seems to.

Joining Tim this time is host of the Don’t Let’s Chart podcast Phil Catterall, who’s sharing his fringe-of-the-memory memories of Madballs Comic, Channel 4’s youth-orientated consumer advice show Wise Up!, the tie-in computer game of Platoon, ill-advised animated newspaper strip update Phantom 2040, a particularly irritating series of adverts for Birdseye Steakhouse Grills, and long-forgotten Star Wars cartoon spin-off Droids. Along the way we’ll also be finding out whether R1D1 is ‘canon’, whether crisps are a vector for healthy living, and just which elements of The Untouchables were considered appropriate for a scrolling platform game aimed at children.

About Phil

Phil Catterall is the co-host (with Ben Baker) of Don’t Let’s Chart, a podcast counting down ridiculous charts and lists of statistics that nobody needed to collate ever, from The Least High Profile Performers At The Royal Variety Performance to The Top Selling Second Hand Pre-Cert Videos. You can find more about Don’t Let’s Chart at Ben’s website here, and follow the show on Twitter at @dontletschart. If you’re new to Don’t Let’s Chart, I’d particularly recommend this one featuring Marvel’s Worst Superheroes, The World’s Most Dangerous Toys, and a Richard Nixon Quiz.

Phil is on Twitter at @fil5000.

You can find more on Star Wars‘ wilderness years and numerous other big-screen sci-fi epics – many of them almost a whole fraction as accomplished and successful as the adventures of R2D2 and company – in Tim’s book Can’t Help Thinking About Me, a collection of columns and features with a personal twist. Can’t Help Thinking About Me is available in paperback here or from the Kindle Store here.

Phil and Ben recorded a special edition of Don’t Let’s Chart for Looks Unfamiliar, counting down eBay’s Top Selling Children’s Annuals, which you can find here.

Phil features in The Best Of Looks Unfamiliar alongside Emma Burnell, Ben Baker, Garreth F. Hirons, Stephen O’Brien, Mark Thompson and Tim on the radio talking about Denys Fisher Board Games, which you can find here.

You can hear about another ill-advised eighties tie-in computer game – this time based on Frankie Goes To Hollywood – in Looks Unfamiliar with Garreth F. Hirons here.
